The Doha Debates are an initiative of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. The Qatar Foundation was founded in 1995 as a focus for reform by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Emir of Qatar. The Foundation is a private, chartered, nonprofit organization committed to the belief that a nation's true wealth is in the potential of its people.
Chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser al Missned, it seeks to develop that potential through a network of centers devoted to education, public health and research.
The Foundation's most ambitious project is Education City, a sprawling campus on the outskirts of Doha which hosts branch campuses of some of the world's leading universities, the Rand-Qatar Policy Institute as well as numerous other learning institutions and research centers. Soon it will also host a science and technology park, a state-of-the-art teaching hospital and a world-class convention center.
